It goes without saying that homicide is a serious crime. Homicide charge will be aggressively prosecuted. Take, for example, the following story about two shooting that recently occurred in Portsmouth.
Early Sunday morning at about 2:00 a.m., police got a phone call about a man shot in the torso on Charleston Avenue in Portsmouth, Virginia. When the police arrived at the scene, the 34-year-old man from Portsmouth was dead on the streets.
Another man, however, walked from the scene to a local hospital, also with a gunshot wound. His injury is not considered to be life-threatening. Police are still investigating the incident to determine whether the two shootings are related. The investigation is still ongoing, according to authorities.
Although we know very little about this incident, the fact remains that two people were shot and one was killed. The police are treating the incident as a homicide. If or when a subject is determined, he or she will be facing very stiff penalties.
It is vitally important for anyone facing serious criminal charges such as assault, battery or homicide to do whatever is necessary to try to get the charges lessened or even dismissed. A strong criminal defense team may have the knowledge, experience and success in defending suspects accused of serious crimes, and will work to do whatever is possible to protect the rights and future of a defendant. There are often many factors and situations that a defendant is not aware of that may lead to lesser charges or in some cases an outright dismissal. Protecting yourself with a strong defense may be the best way to proceed.
