Family violence can lead to domestic violence charges for many Virginia residents. Men and women of all walks of life can face these serious charges. U.S. women’s soccer star Hope Solo faced two counts of domestic violence in the fourth degree after an incident at her sister’s home in June of last year. Her charges were later dismissed by a judge on procedural grounds.
However, her troubles are not over. Earlier this month, it was revealed that the Olympic gold medalist goalie will once again be charged with domestic violence. A Washington state appeals court reversed the decision of a lower court to dismiss her case. The court’s website does not say when a new trial will take place, but it has confirmed that the case has been remanded to the Kirkland (Washington) Municipal Court.
According to Solo’s half-sister, Teresa Obert, Solo drunkenly attacked Obert’s 17-year-old son and repeatedly slammed him in to the cement. When Obert attempted to pull her off of her son, Solo allegedly punched her in the face repeatedly.
Solo has consistently denied any wrongdoing, and has used the original dismissal to help repair her damaged reputation. Solo has said that she was falsely accused and that she was actually a victim. Solo’s attorney has reported that they will file an appeal with the Court of Appeals in light of the reversal.
