Man charged with attempted murder of Virginia teen

Defending against criminal charges can be especially challenging if the charges involve attempted murder. One local man now has to deal with these charges firsthand. The 54-year-old man was arrested earlier this month and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a firearm after being convicted of a felony and one count of attempted first-degree murder.

The incident occurred when a 17-year-old high school student was found at the man's home with a gunshot wound to his face. The man and the boy were said to be acquaintances, but authorities are unsure as to why the boy was at the man's house that night. The man had fled the home by the time police arrived. Police are still investigating the incident, but witnesses at the home at the time of the shooting have been interviewed.

The boy was listed in serious condition at a local hospital. The man is being held without bond in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail and will be arraigned soon.

Criminal defense becomes more important the more serious the charges are. It is important for those accused of any crime to be aware of their possible defenses. If the accused decides to hire an attorney or another expert in the criminal field, they can work together to come up with an effective strategy to defend against these charges. Denying guilt or confessing completely is a possible option, but a confession may also be successful with the appropriate explanation. Those accused of a crime should know that they have options and that simply being accused does not imply guilt.
